The Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic held its 4th annual Winter Shoe Drive at the Payless Shoe store in Delano on December 4th. The Delano Child Guidance Clinic staff worked year round to raise funds for this year’s event, which provided shoes to 115 children. Starbucks baristas and Payless store employees also joined in, helping the students select their new shoes, and serving cups of hot chocolate as they exited the store.

“For some of the children here today, this may be their first new pair of shoes,”
— JOSHUA SULLIVAN, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Many Delano parents struggle year-round to provide essential items for their children. According to kidsdata.org, 45% of Delano children live in poverty. The Delano Winter Shoe Drive eases some of that financial burden for parents and helps put a smile on the faces of these children. “For some of the children here today, this may be their first new pair of shoes,” stated Director of Marketing Joshua Sullivan, “their families have only been able to provide hand-me-downs. As a child, it’s exciting to have something that is just yours.” Most importantly, the new shoes will keep these students’ feet dry and warm during the winter months as they walk to school and play outside with friends.

The Delano Child Guidance Clinic holds fundraising events through-out the year to make this event possible. If you would like to learn about our next fundraising event subscribe to our monthly newsletter or you can visit our website to donate.
