Welcome to Child Guidance Clinic Foster
Family Agency
Our Story
The Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic is Kern
County?s oldest counseling center for children, adolescents and
their families. The Clinic is a private, non-profit center that
serves children and their families who are struggling with
emotional, behavioral and substance abuse problems. Since the
Clinic has an extensive history of working with foster children
and foster families, becoming a Foster Family Agency was the
logical next step.
The Child Guidance Foster Family Agency (CGFFA) is a
private, non-profit organization with a caring, family-centered
environment that offers the quality of foster care and support
services that the Clinic has been proud to provide since 1946.
CGFFA is committed to helping Kern County children and
adolescents by training loving foster families who are prepared
to guide them through trying times. Being linked with the Clinic
makes therapeutic services more accessible to assist with this
process.
The purpose of CGFFA is to develop stable foster homes that
provide a nurturing, supportive and stable environment for
foster children so that they can grow and reach their full
potential.
Our foster family agency is determined to recruit, train,
certify and provide professional support to Kern County
residents that are willing and able to open their families and
homes to foster children for six to eighteen months. Our staff
works closely with each foster family to ensure that needed
services are identified and provided. We are committed to
maintaining the children?s placement and strengthening the
support networks while instilling a sense of hope and security
within each child. Often times, foster children are in need of
mental health services. It is of great benefit to our foster
families to have access to the Child Guidance Clinic for
intensive outpatient services. We work in concert with Clinic
staff when providing a full continuum of services including
psychiatric services, specialized groups, medication,
psychological testing, intensive case management and therapeutic
behavioral services.
Every foster child in Kern County deserves a strong, committed
and nurturing family environment where needs are consistently
and predictably met. Empathy, compassion, and loving support are
necessary for healthy growth and development. With the support
of our staff, we strive to maintain these family units until the
children and families of origin are reunited or until the
children are of age to live successfully and independently. It
is our goal to expand as an agency in conjunction with the
residents of Kern County who have a desire to enhance the lives
of foster children. Together we can make a difference in the
future of our county by empowering families and children while
offering them love, safety, security and most importantly, hope.
