Guild House

Volunteerism is critically important to the success of a nonprofit organization and, for the Child Guidance Clinic, this is definitely the case with respect to Guild House operated by the Bakersfield Child Guidance Guild. Many of Bakersfield's residents are familiar with the marvelous lunches and special events held at Guild House, but they might not be aware of the magnitude of the work performed by the volunteers of the Child Guidance Guild and those who benefit from their efforts.

Founded in September 1958, the Guild's main objective is to conduct fundraising activities to assist and support the work of the Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic. Various fundraising events have been conducted by Guild volunteers, including theater parties, fashion shows, luncheons, as well as a door-to-door campaign known as "Operation Doorstep." In March 1963, thanks to the devoted efforts of Charlotte Ramirez and her committee, a tea room, known as Guild House, was born.

Blanche & Irma Weill Foundation

The Blanche and Irma Weill Foundation is one of many organizations that has consistently provided funding for the Child Guidance Clinic. This Foundation has also played an extremely important role in the success of the Clinic. The Foundation was established in 1954 by a number of concerned citizens, including Blanche and Irma Weill, who inherited their philanthropic spirit from their mother, Henrietta Weill. The proceeds derived from the sale of the Weill family property were used to purchase the land and fund the construction of a building to house the Clinic at 804 - 11th Street. The Child Guidance Clinic rented the building from the Blanche and Irma Weill Foundation, which returned the funds to the Clinic at the end of each year in the form of an annual contribution. Since then, Foundation contributions have been made to the Clinic to fund various programs and projects. To date, the Foundation has contributed more than $640,000.00 to the Clinic. The Foundation also donated the proceeds from the sale of the Clinic buildings and property on 11th Street to help finance the construction of the current facility at 3628 Stockdale Highway.
